The Hopi Foundation Announces Climate Innovation Grant for Hopi Tribal Members

Kykotsmovi, AZ - The Hopi Foundation is thrilled to announce the launch of the Climate Innovation Grant under the Hopi Emergency Relief Fund (HERF). This new funding opportunity is designed to support existing innovative prevention and mitigation projects on the Hopi reservation that address the pressing challenges of climate change.

The Climate Innovation Grant is a competitive grant available exclusively to enrolled Hopi tribal members. Eligible projects must be based on the Hopi reservation and focus on one of the following key areas:

  • Water Conservation: Initiatives such as rainwater harvesting, construction of barricades, and other methods to preserve and manage water resources.

  • Farming: Projects addressing flood prevention, erosion control, soil quality improvement, and other agricultural sustainability efforts.

  • Livestock Farming/Ranching: Weatherizing animal homes, drought mitigation through water tanks and drinking troughs, fence repair, and other measures to protect and sustain livestock.

We are excited to support the innovative ideas and efforts of our Hopi & Tewa community members in tackling the challenges of climate change. This grant will enable our people to continue preserving and nurturing our land, while also adapting to the evolving environmental conditions

To assist potential applicants, The Hopi Foundation will host two live Q&A sessions via Zoom in September, providing detailed information about the grant scope, guidelines, and what types of projects will be considered for funding. These sessions will offer a valuable opportunity for community members to gain clarity on how best to align their projects with the grant’s objectives.

  • The first session will be on September 5, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. MST.

  • The second session will be on September 19, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. MST.

The Climate Innovation Grant application will be available starting September 2nd, 2024. We encourage eligible Hopi tribal members to consider applying and contributing to our community's sustainability and resilience.
